Knight Notes for May 2017

May is here; can summer be far behind? This is a busy and important month for the Revere Knights of Columbus.

Due to unseen circumstances, the open board meeting scheduled for Wednesday, May 10, at 7 p.m. has been postponed until Monday, May 15. “Coffee and …” will be available. These meetings are open to all members, not just officers. There are several items on our agenda.

We will review our meeting nights to see if one or both need to be changed. How things stand with the Building Committee will be a continued topic of interest. We will also be discussing nominations for those who will lead us next year. If you are interested in serving, contact Jimmy Williams, Dana Brangiforte or Vinny Bono to get your name on the ballot.

Various committees need to be formed. How can we raise money for the club this summer? Should we have a golf or bowling tournament? Sell chocolates? A Fundraising Committee would go a long way to figure it out. A Membership Committee would help us continue to grow. Share the Faith!

On the spiritual side, we need to form a Sick Vigil & Soul Patrol and a Spiritual Community Service Committee. We also need a cantor. If you have a voice, why not lift it in song? After all, you know the phrase, attributed to Saint Augustine: “He who sings, prays twice!”

Your comments on these issues, and others, are welcome.

This month’s dinner meeting will be held on Thursday, May 18. Dinner is at 7; the meeting begins at 8. Elections are scheduled to be held that night.

On April 24, our chaplain, Father Daniel, celebrated seven years of holy priesthood, four of which have been spent right here in Revere. We are grateful to have him.

For our April dinner meeting, Chef Michael Chiesa and his assistants made an unbelievably delicious meal: stuffed roast pork and all the fixings with brownies and cookies for desert. How will he top that this month? Rumor has it that the menu begins with the letter “I.”

The Drawing for the Television was held on April 3, 2017, and it was won by Ms. Rene Conte.

Past Grand Knight and former District Deputy Bobby Serino is on the mend! He is about a month away from close to a full recovery. Cards can be sent to him at home.

Finally, in the words of Grand Knight John Verrengia regarding the April dinner meeting: “What stole the show last night was the return of Brother Roger Naples, age 96.5. Recently recovered from major illness and now once again is a member of the Revere K of C! His words last night on the love he has for the club brought tears to all and we are so grateful to have him back and thankful to Jimmy Williams for visiting Roger during his recuperation and illness and getting him back.”

Any questions, comments or suggestions or information on what you need to do to become a Knight of Columbus, please text or call and leave a message for Rick at 781-249-2385. Please contact the council as we are actively seeking new or inactive members and welcome others who want to transfer.
