city leaders renewed one of Everett’s most cherished
traditions. The Friendly Sons of St. Patrick’s Dinner, as
it as for more than 50 years, provided good humor and
goodwill highlighted by the presentation of Traditional
Sheleighlys to six prominent members of the commu-
nity for their service and dedication to the city and its
residents.
The event was hosted by State Rep. Joseph McGo-
nagle, while City Clerk Michael Matarazzo served as
master of ceremonies. Special guests included Speaker
of the House Robert DeLeo, Mayor Carlo DeMaria,
State Senator Sal DiDomenico, and members of the
City Council and School Committee.
In addition to a dinner of corned beef and cabbage,
guests were entertained by traditional Irish dancers
and singers, as well as members of the Everett High
School Orchestra and A Capella Choir. Proceeds from

This year, the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick presented
Traditional Sheleighlys to the following individuals:
|
Robert Carreiro
, former teacher and Executive
Director of the Everett Housing Authority; current
member of the School Committee
Charles Obremski
, Assistant Superintendent of
Schools and longtime teacher and administrator.
Attorney Colleen Sullivan Mejia
, longtime City
Solicitor for the City of Everett.
Fr. Gerald Osterman
, Pastor of the Immaculate
Conception Church in Everett
Myrielle Daniel
of the North Shore Evangelical
Missionary Church of Everett
James Marchant
, a former Assistant City Clerk
in Everett and an active parishioner at St. Anthony’s
Church, where he serves as a Reader, Altar Server and
Extraordinary Minister.
All of the recipients gave gracious and heartfelt re-
marks, highlighting how much this event means to the
people of Everett. This year’s dinner was made all the
more meaningful due to the recent passing of Leader
Herald publisher Joseph Curnane Jr., whose father
started this tradition more than a half-century ago.
As is tradition, the speakers took the opportunity
to make lighthearted comments and jokes about each
other and life in general, giving the festivities an atmo-
