Tanners Boys’ Lacrosse in search of first win
By Greg Phipps
wo non-league home loss-
es left the Peabody boys’
lacrosse team still searching
for their first victory of 2017.
Despite a 13-1 defeat at the
hands of a very strongChelms-
ford squad last Saturday and
15-4 loss to North Reading on
Tuesday, Tanners head coach
Tony O’Donnell sees prog-
“I think we’re getting bet-
ter with every game,” said
O’Donnell after last Saturday’s
outing.“Chelmsford is a tough
opponent; they’re undefeat-
ed and they’re a quality team.
I thought we hung with them
formost of the game. But what
continues toplague us are sec-
ondary possessions, unforced
turnovers and clearing the ball
[out of the defensive zone]. Of
the 25minutes in the first half,
we played 20 of those on de-
fense. You’re not going to win
when that happens.”
Taking nine penalties in Sat-
urday’s game also didn’t help
the Tanners, who dropped to
0-5 after Tuesday’s defeat. Col-
by Therrian scored Peabody’s
only goal against Chelmsford.
In Tuesday ’s game, Ste-
phen Ell continued his strong
play on of fense by tal ly-
ing three times. Ell poured
home six goals in Peabody’s
close Northeastern Confer-
ence 9-8 loss at Danvers last
week. Freshman James Nich-
olson notched his first career
varsity goal, and netminder
Jake DeStafano finished with
22 saves.
