Annual GreenFest on April 29
P
eabody’s seventh annual
GreenFest will take place
on Saturday, April 29, from 9
a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Cap-
tain Samuel Brown School,
which is located at 150 Lynn
St. inPeabody. This year Green-
Fest will be on the same day
as Peabody City Clean Up, so
celebrate Earth Day by doing
both! Citizens can give back
to the city by cleaning up, and
also enjoy the rest of the day
at GreenFest!
Don’t miss the opportuni-
ty to recycle electronics for a
minimal fee andbringolddoc-
uments for large scale paper-
shredding (the first two box-
es are free). There will also be
separate recycling for numer-
ous items: shoes & old shoe
laces, textiles, cellphones, can
tabs, books and eye glasses (all
for free). Among the numer-
ous exhibitors participating
in GreenFest are Salem Sound
Coastwatch, Peabody Institute
Library’s Creativity Lab, Trini-
ty Solar, Mass. Department of
Environmental Protection, Till-
ie’s Farm, Rebirth Fitness, Mass.
Department of Agricultural Re-
sources, and many more.
At GreenFest there will be
many different types of activi-
ties. Salem Sound Coastwatch
will have a presentation about
the very important topic of
flood mitigation (a Peabody
issue) with a focus on hydrolo-
gy, geomorphology and coast-
al and regional geology. Small
Biz Computing, the creator of
the“greenmachine”computer,
will host a clinic where attend-
ees can watch students build
a gaming computer through-
out the day at GreenFest. Vis-
itors can also visit a pop-up
coffee bar hosted by Breaking
Grounds Coffee House of Pea-
body, and watch a 3D printer
print objectswhichwill bepro-
vided by the Library’s Creativi-
ty Lab. Chris’FarmStandwill be
givingawayaCommunitySup-
portedAgriculture (CSA)mem-
bership to one attendee; this
lucky person will win a sum-
mer full of free farm-fresh veg-
etables weekly from our local
farm stand, Chris’ Farm Stand.
In addition, there will be stu-
dent sustainable science fair
projects, and fun art activities
for everyone.
This year donations will help
support scholarships that will
be awarded to Peabody resi-
dent high school seniors who
have demonstrated excellent
efforts in protecting the envi-
ronment.
The event location, the
Brown School, hosts the event
for the fifth year in a row.
Brown School teachers have
been committed to educating
students about environmental
conservation and have been
members of the Green Team
from 2008–2017, have won
the Excellence in Environmen-
tal Education Award in 2008–
2016 and won 1
st
place in the
Recycle Bowl in 2016. In ad-
dition, the Brown School has
won the Project Green Schools
