Council has received a Pioneers
in Partnership Award from Essex
Heritage under her leadership.
Some highlights of that inter-
view follow.
Q:
How did you get involved
with the environment as an ac-
tivist?
A:
My interest in the environ-
mental field began with a love
of natural areas, especially those
connectedwiththesea. Because
I enjoy swimming, kayakingand
hiking in coastal areas, I believe
it is extremely important to en-
surethat theseprecious resourc-
es are protected for future gen-
erations. I got started in the en-
vironmental fieldas avolunteer.
While I was working in public fi-
nance at the State House, I co-
ordinated a volunteer monitor-
ing program for Massachusetts
Audubon in the Great Marsh
area.
Q:
What are some of the
groups you belong to and have
worked with over the years?
A:
In addition [to those noted
above], I have served on a wide
range of other environmental
organizations and initiatives,
such as the Board of Directors
for the Environmental League
