Andrea Berman's Beach City Buzz

Howdy, friends, and welcome to the BUZZ.  First, let us wish all of our Beach City Dads a very Happy Father’s Day, and may it be filled with everything good - perhaps a cushy couch, a good book, a winning Red Sox game, a grill full of goodies, and a house full of happy faces.  Or at least time off from the Honey-do List.  How ever you choose to observe the day, here’s to the guys we love.  And here are a few Father’s Day fun factoids:  The first Father’s Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910, but it wasn’t until 1972 that Dad’s special day was recognized as a holiday, thanks to President Richard Nixon, who signed it into law.  34% of Dads surveyed reported that they would prefer money over purchased gifts. Insure.com’s 2012 Father’s Day Index, which looks at jobs associated with fatherhood, found that the paycheck for Dad’s domestic tasks this year would be $20,248. (Their recent Mother’s Day Index placed the value of Mom’s role at home at $60,182.) The average American will spend $35 less on a Father’s Day gift than on a Mother’s Day gift. Planning to get Dad a tie?  Maybe you need to reconsider this one - 30% of Dads surveyed reported that their least favorite gift would be a tie.  Rounding out the top 3 least favorites are underwear and tools.  We couldn’t help but take a spin around the internet to find some uh, let us say, rather “unique” gifts for Dad:  How ‘bout a “Potty Fishing” kit, a new “Man Candle” with scents like “Riding Lawn Mower” and “2 x 4”, or an iPhone case with built-in bottle opener?  For the Dad who loves bacon, there’s bacon flavored gum balls, or maybe a membership in the Bacon of the Month Club.  Nope, we’re not making that one up.  Other fun items:  a “team  logo” toaster, Spanx for men, or my personal favorite, the Do-It-Yourself Juice to Alcohol Kit.  Just add juice and a packet of the magical alcohol powder and you will have your own homemade liquor in only 48 hours. The resulting booze will be up to 28 proof -  Hmm...think of the possibilities - 28 proof prune juice, anyone?  There’s a punch line there somewhere...Let’s RUN on over to the BUZZ...The Neighborhood Developers have announced that everyone’s invited to help with a playground building day at Costa Park. "It's pronounced Havaii," said the father. "No, Dad, it's pronounced Hawaii," argued the son. They argued about it throughout the whole flight, until they deplaned in Oahu. The father approached a man at the airport gate and asked,"Can you settle an argument for us? Is this Hawaii or Havaii?" "This is Havaii," the gentleman said. "Ha! I knew it!" said the father to his son. "See, didn't I tell you I'm always right?" The father turned back to the man, shook his hand, and said, "Thank you." "You're velcome."...Got news?  Announcements? Jokes? Suggestions?  Is your group having a meeting or fundraiser? Know someone’s who celebrating a birthday, divorce, new baby or anniversary?
