The city council voted in favor of a city ordinance fingerprinting individuals applying for certain licenses.
People who seek licenses for an ice cream truck or a taxi for example will be forced to get fingerprinted in order to gain their licenses.
The city council did this as a safety precaution. They also agreed on amendments that were given to them by the State Police.
Many of the councillors voiced their approval for this ordinance.
“This gives the police another tool to protect us,” Councillor-at-Large John Correggio said. “I am 100 percent behind this.”
Ward Five Councillor John Powers believes this will help children of the city the most.
“You can never be too careful today,” he said. “You read the paper and there are missing and exploited children every day. At least we have a database now. If something does happen we can find that person within 24 hours and put an end on what was intended to happen.”
