Langone demoted after WBZ I-Team Report
This past week Mayor Rizzo held a hearing with former Sgt. Jeffrey Langone, and Police Chief Joe Cafarelli, to discuss allegations made in a recent WBZ I-Team Investigation. This scathing report showed Sergeant Langone repeatedly going to his parent’s house to sleep during work for which he was on duty and being paid.
After a formal hearing, it was decided that Langone would be stripped of his rank and demoted back to patrolman. In addition he was suspended for 30 days without pay. Mayor Rizzo felt that an example had to be set and expects all municipal staff to uphold certain basic standards.
“The citizens of Revere deserve better; these acts by former Sergeant Langone are breaches of the public trust. Police Officers are on the front lines protecting our community twenty-four (24) hours a day, each and every day. That is the job they accepted and that is what I expect them to do. The majority of our municipal work force takes their job seriously and by and large, does a terrific job. It is my hopes that our residents don’t let the indiscretions of one person taint all of our employees,” stated Rizzo. “In this case, based on the officer’s prior history, I believe the punishment handed down is commensurate with the offense.”
