Strongman/Strongwoman is a sport with extraordinary visual appeal—both in still photography and video—and unparalleled athleticism; it is gaining in popularity. Several popular fitness programs leverage Strongman/Strongwoman events, and ESPN2’s World’s Strongest Man reaches an ever-greater audience.
Events at this contest will include the following:
● Atlas Stones: Athletes lift giant stone balls weighing anywhere from 100 lbs. to almost 400 lbs. It’s a crowd favorite.
● Ironmind Sandbag Carry: Have you ever carried a 40 lb. bag of dog food up a flight of stairs? Imagine doing that with a 275 lb. bag of sand while running? It’s even harder than it looks!
● Axle Deadlift: Athletes lift giant barbells loaded with truck tires and weight plates from the floor and keep doing it as many times as they can.
● Tire Flips: You have seen this; it’s a staple and a crowd favorite. Athletes flip earth-mover tires weighing up to 900 lbs. as many times as they can.
Sponsors for the event who will be on hand include American Concrete Systems, MetRx, Muscle Milk, American Nutrition Center (ANC), Kayem Foods, Ideal Staffing, Spud Inc., AtLarge Nutrition, and Vibram Five Fingers.
As they do each year, TPS will donate a portion of the profits to the Chelsea Soldiers’ Home to help out the veterans who have sacrificed so much for us.
