Revere resident and popular Boston chef Brian Poe attend Joslin Diabetes Center


Celebrity chefs Jose Duarte of Taranta Restaurant and Brian Poe of Poe’s Kitchen and Tip Tap Room served up some delectable, diabetes-friendly cuisine to Joslin Diabetes Center President and CEO John Brooks and Channel 4’s Yadires Salcedo-Nova. They were at the 3rd Annual Ritmos de Salud to benefit Joslin’s Latino Diabetes Initiative (LDI). The event was held at the Artists for Humanity EpiCenter in South Boston on Friday, September 26.

Duarte was the culinary “chair” and enlisted the help of several pals from Tip Tap Room, Davio’s, Brasserie JO, Masona Grill, Citizen Public House, and Casa B. Alexander “El Cantante” Boston Latin Band whipped the crowd into a salsa frenzy with some help from Salsa y Control.

Diabetes is a disease of epidemic proportions across all populations, affecting certain racial/ethnic groups in even greater numbers. National data demonstrates that Latinos have a two-fold increase in the risk of developing type 2 diabetes compared to the Caucasian population.

Joslin Diabetes Center’s LDI strives to improve the lives of Latinos affected by diabetes, or at risk for the disease, through culturally-oriented patient care, education, outreach and research, as well as working to find a cure.
