Coach Stone celebrates 1,100th win

Inducted into National Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame at Gillette Stadium Ceremony

Call him Craig Mile-Stone. The star coach of the girls’ tennis team and boys’ wrestling team earned his 1,100th combined win in both sports last Thursday when his tennis team beat North Reading, 4-1. The team is now 7-0 this spring.

Stone is now just the 3rd coach in the history of Massachusetts to reach 1,100 wins. To date, Stone has 528 wins (and 323 losses) in wrestling and 572 (and 85 losses) in tennis.

It’s been a big month for Stone. Just last week, he was inducted into the National Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame in a ceremony at Gillette Stadium for his role in leading Lynnfield Wrestling.

“This is an incredible accomplishment when you really think about how much goes into winning that many games and matches and the players you have to develop into winners.” Said director of athletics at Lynnfield High, Michael Bierwirth. “Hopefully we can keep coach Stone around for a couple of hundred more victories.”
