MHSAA gives out $11,000 in awards

The Malden High School Alumni Association in its ongoing desire to reward excellence has presented $1,000 academic awards to 11 more graduating seniors in the Class of 2017. This brings to $45,000 awarded to MHS students by the alumni group since the awards program was established in 2012. MHSAA President Anthony Dickinson, Class of 1966, Vice President Diane Lind, Class of 1954, and board member Carol Scally, Class of 1964, presented the awards.

Included were several special awards. Marilyn Holland, in memory of her late husband and president of the MHSAA, former School Superintendent Dr. George Holland, Class of 1955, presented an award in education to Julia Cocuzzo. Other special awards:

The Sager Family Foundation, on behalf of philanthropist, humanitarian and MHS Hall of Famer Bobby Sager, Class of 1972, presented an award in business to Edward Huang and donated funds for an award in education to Gianna Giuliano. The Sager Foundation also joined with the Nancy Finkelstein Family to present an award in education to Nayara Andrade in memory of the late MHS educator Nancy Finkelstein. A special award from Hall of Famer Paula Sneed, Class of 1965, was presented to Maria Ramos, and an anonymous MHS graduate donated funds for the award to McKenzie Vo.
