Fire department receives new rig

alt

Lynnfield’s fire department is getting an upgrade. Thanks to funds approved at last year’s Town Meeting, the department will be adding a brand new pumper to its fleet. The pumper is meant to replace the 1985 Mack, which was purchased in 2005. The new truck has seating for six firefighters, can store 750 gallons of water and has a foam cell, an onboard generator and a light tower.

The truck is still in production at “Emergency One” in Hamburg, N.Y. In early March the department’s mechanic will be going to the factory to conduct an inspection. From there, the rig will be transported to the Attleboro, Mass.--based Greenwood Emergency Vehicles for completion of lettering and dealer installed options. The process should complete at the end of March, after which the department will begin training on the new apparatus. Fire chief Mark Tetreault said that he hopes to have the truck fully operational by mid-April.
