Councillor informs residents of new snow emergency parking ban

By Ira Novoselsky

Ward 2 Councillor

In the wake of the news of the upcoming snow storm, I am informing you of the following: Last week the Revere Traffic Commission revised the city ordinances to have a “Snow Emergency Ban” for parking on North Shore Road from the Revere Beach Parkway to Beach Street and also on Walnut Place. This was completed in the interest of Public Safety, considering access for fire trucks, ambulances, and police vehicles. Knowing there is parking only on the east side of North Shore Road (even numbered side), it was noted that this would be inconvenient to residents. With this parking change during snow storms also comes news that Suffolk Downs has offered off street parking in the lot behind the Dollar Tree Store at the Shops at Suffolk Downs. The city will plow the lot to allow folks to get out after the Snow Emergency Bans are lifted.

I request, in an effort to allow the MDOT [Massachusetts Department of Transportation] to properly plow the street, that neighbors either park cars in their driveways, offer driveway parking to other neighbors, or park at Suffolk Downs during this emergency period.

The emergency parking ban will allow the State to do a better job in clearing the neighborhood of snow.

Although signs have not as yet been installed, hopefully you will still relocate your vehicles.

Thank you for your anticipated cooperation and understanding.
