Kovil announces for councillor-at-large

I, Walter Kovil am pleased to announce my candidacy for councilor-at-large in the city of Revere.

I have lived in Revere for 34 years. I grew up here, played sports here, my friends and family live here, and most importantly I plan on raising my family in Revere. I am running for councilor-at-large because I feel Revere is a fantastic city with a bright future and I want to be a part of making the right choices and seeking the best opportunities to help Revere achieve its full potential. I want to see our community continue to grow and prosper as a place we are proud to call home.

I am currently employed as the Treasurer of the Massachusetts Correction Officers Federated Union, the largest law enforcement union in Massachusetts. As treasurer I am responsible for the business operations of the union as well as the financial well-being of correction officers all over the commonwealth.  The city will benefit from the many skills I have cultivated in this position such as budgeting and contract negotiation.

Before being elected to my treasurer post, I served the commonwealth as a correction officer for twelve years. I also run a successful accounting practice in the city. I have associates degrees in criminal justice and accounting from North Shore Community College. I am completing my B.A. in Business Administration (accounting) at Salem State University. I have served my country in both the Army and Air National Guard.

My career qualifies me to take on the fiscal responsibility of taxpayer spending. I understand that this community is built by hard working people and I owe it to them to ensure that their tax dollars are spent as wisely as possible. The safety of the residents of Revere is also a top priority. My many years as a correction officer gives me a great understanding of the criminal justice system and a knowledge base that will enable me to work with our public safety officials to ensure that Revere is a safe community for all of us to live and raise our families.

In short, I am a qualified and capable candidate with a background in business and law enforcement who sees an incredible amount of potential in Revere and I have the drive and desire to help the city fulfill it. Thank you for your consideration and please vote Kovil for councillor-at-large.
