A man believed to be homeless and in his mid-30s died on Saturday afternoon near Copeland Circle underneath a Route 1 overpass.
“It appears that he was homeless – though the evidence suggests he had been sleeping in the area where he was found,” Suffolk County District Attorney spokesperson Jake Wark said Monday night.
Wark declined to release the man’s name since his death wasn’t likely the result of criminal conduct or foul play. As of a few days later, the man’s exact cause of death hasn’t been released, but cold temperatures could play a factor. The body was found near an apparent makeshift living space with blankets and clothing nearby.
“The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has not yet determined the cause or manner of the man’s death,” Wark said. When there is no obvious physical trauma, additional specialized testing is often necessary to make that determination. That can take a few weeks.”
