Hockey Pats in Bourne Classic this weekend
By Steve Freker
The winter season kicks off this weekend for many of the Revere High Patriots teams, including boys’ basketball and varsity hockey.
Head coach Dave Leary’s Patriots boys’ basketball squad hosts Peabody in the home season-opener and Northeastern Conference (NEC) opener tonight at 7:00 p.m. at Revere High.
The Patriots had a team full of underclassmen last season and this year is hoping for a return to the MIAA State Boys Basketball Tournament after missing out last year. In 2016-17, coach Leary’s team won its last four games to end a 16-year postseason drought – last appearing in the tourney in 2001. Revere returns most of its team this year, including seniors Marcus Brunson-Perez, Donato Colarossi, Nick Ciciulla and John Leone, juniors EJ Leone and Derek Avery and sophomore Dylan Day.
Following tonight’s game, the Revere boys are back in action Monday on the road at Chelsea High in a non-league game (7:00 p.m. tipoff).
Head coach Joe Ciccarello’s Revere/Malden boys’ co-op varsity hockey team will compete in the Bourne Classic Hockey Tournament this weekend at the Gallo Rink in Bourne. The Revere/Malden Patriots play Dartmouth High School tonight at 6:00 p.m. in one semifinal game. Host Bourne plays Westfield High School at 8:00 p.m. in the other semifinal. The two semifinal winners play for the Tourney Championship on Saturday at 8:00 p.m. at the Gallo Rink. The consolation game is at 6:00 p.m.
