Last Tuesday evening the Beachmont VFW Post 6712 opened its doors to veterans who are recipients of the Purple Heart Medal. This medal is awarded to members of the US Armed Forces who were wounded in battle. August is deemed Purple Heart month, but Purple Heart Day is August 7 which is the day General George Washington created the Purple Heart Medal in 1782; the Purple Heart Medal still has his silhouette on it.
