    CORRECTION In last week’s edition of the Revere Police Arrest Log dated Sunday, July 8, it was reported that Karen V. DiBella of 16 Raymond Rd., Revere, and Maren R. Ceja of 85 Cooledge St., Revere, were arrested on charges when in fact both DiBella and Ceja were only given summons to court for their charges. The Advocate regrets the error.

    Goldberg Road resident under influence of drugs, strikes house

     By Christopher Roberson   At 4:29 p.m. on July 12, Peabody Police were notified that an individual later identified as Daniel Soto, 23, of 13 Goldberg Rd., had allegedly driven his 2004 Mercury Mountaineer into the front porch of the residence at 93 Central St. Capt. Dennis Bonaiuto said that following the collision; Soto proceeded to drive the vehicle to “the area of Goldberg Road,” were he got out and attempted to flee on foot. After Soto was apprehended, Bonaiuto said a series of field sobriety tests confirmed that Soto was under the influence of drugs and was taken into custody.     Letter to the Editor: Thank you to all who helped make the 51st annual LAA 4th of July 5K Road Race a success!   Dear Editor, The heat wave did not keep the runners away. The 51st annual running of the Lynnfield Athletic Association 4th of July 5k Road Race was a great success. 331 runners from ages 4-77 came out and ran despite the 80 degree temperature at start time.     Saugus man arraigned in fatal Malden crash   BOSTON – Renan DaSilva, 32, of Saugus, was arraigned on Wednesday in Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston in connection with the fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred in Malden on July 8. He was charged with motor vehicle homicide; operating under the influence, causing serious bodily injury; operating under the influence, negligent operation; unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle; uninsured operation of a motor vehicle; and operating a vehicle with a revoked registration.     Blackhawk helicopter touchdown highlights Glendale Park Junior Police Academy

       The United States Army landed a Blackhawk helicopter at Glendale Park on Wednesday as a highlight for the Junior Police Academy.  Everett youth participating in the program have spent the week learning about the role of police officers and their inter-agency partners including the military.   Kids enjoyed climbing into the helicopter to take a closer look.     Reid’s Ride is transforming the impossible into the possible for adolescents and young adults diagnosed with cancer   Overcast but bright skies softened the mid-July sun, making for cool temperatures and a perfect day for a challenging but scenic bike ride. Nearly 400 cyclists set out from Lynnfield High School (LHS) early Sunday morning, July 15, for the 2018 Annual Reid’s Ride 28-mile bike ride. The theme for this year’s event was based on the popular sci-fi television series “Star Trek” and its many relevant catchphrases, such as Captain Jean-Luc Picard’s proclamation “that things are only impossible until they’re not.” Now in its 14th year, Reid’s Ride is indeed making…

    Sand Castle Festival Sponsors present check to Revere Beach Partnership

    The Revere Beach Sculpting Festival kicked off on Tuesday morning, with a presentation of donations from sponsors.  Mayor Brian Arrigo and the Revere Beach Partnership gathered at the centerpiece sculpture while sculptors worked vigorously behind them on the center collaborative piece.  This year, the center piece, which adorns the logos of all the sponsors and partners, takes on a nurse rhyme theme, including Humpty Dumpty, the Boston ducklings, and a fairytale castle all made of sand.  The individual sculptures will be created throughout the week and finalized on Saturday for judging.     Morris Street fire injures three, displaces 19

    By Brendan Clogston   A dangerous three-alarm house fire last Friday, July 13 devastated the two-family building at 15 Morris St., injuring two firefighters and a resident and displacing 19 people. When firefighters arrived at the scene Friday afternoon, they found an intense fire ripping through the two-family home with a woman still on the second floor, trapped. The situation became even more dangerous as Ladder 2 Acting Lieutenant Scott Dalrymple and Firefighter Joshua Doyon tried to enter the building from the front porch when the intense heat from backdraft forced the two men back outside with serious injuries.     First Annual Malden Road Race 10K

    The First Annual Malden Road Race 10k took place on Sunday morning starting at Piantedosi Baking Co. The race was presented by Idle Hands and Bantam Cider and was sponsored by Dom’s Sausage Co, Piantedosi Baking Co, and Hoff’s Bakery.  The race welcomed more than 1,000 seasoned and casual runners.
