Lynnfield girls’ soccer beats the Generals, but loses to Austin Prep by identical 1-0 scores
By Joe Mitchell The Lynnfield High School girls’ soccer team (12-5-3, eighth seed) began the Division 3 North state tournament with a 1-0 win over Hamilton-Wenham (8-5-4, ninth seed). But then, top seed Austin Prep (18-2) turned the tables on them in the North quarterfinal round match-up by the same close score. “It was a great game against Hamilton-Wenham. We worked really hard to pull out this win,” said Coach Mark Vermont. “But we actually played better against Austin Prep,” said Vermont. “We moved the ball very well, and constantly kept the pressure on them, especially in the second half.” The Lynnfield girls actually outshot Austin Prep, 10-7. Football Pioneers defeat Wakefield to secure their second win of the year
By Joe Mitchell In this rebuilding year, the Lynnfield High School football team secured their second win of the year last Friday night against Wakefield in a non-playoff game, 29-22. Junior quarterback Clayton Marengi was credited with four touchdown passes, and Jack Ford was the recipient of three of them, which tied a school record. John Lee was also on the receiving end of a second quarter scoring strike from the six. Marengi ended up completing 12 passes for 207 yards. The Lynnfield boys actually trailed, 22-21 after three quarters, but Marengi took care of that deficit, when he hooked up with Ford for a 26-yard touchdown. They never…

Field hockey team secures two postseason wins to reach North Final Four for first time in 10 years
By Joe Mitchell The Lynnfield High School field hockey team (16-3-1, fourth seed) is back in the Division 2 North Final Four after at least a 10-year drought, following wins over Stoneham (4-0) and Weston (3-1) in the first two rounds of the state tournament throughout this past week. By Joe Mitchell The Lynnfield High School football team (1-8) started its non-playoff portion of the schedule last Friday night, Oct. 26, against host Watertown, who was able to survive by the narrowest of margins, 7-2. Coach Pat Lamusta’s first season, though on the surface has been a losing campaign, actually was more heartbreaking with a number of close losses than anything else. Pioneers opened up postseason against visiting Stoneham Nov. 1 By Joe Mitchell The Lynnfield High School field hockey team (12-3-1 in the CAL, 14-3-1 overall) finished second to Masco in the Kinney Division, third overall, before prepping for visiting Stoneham in a Division 2 North first round game at home Nov. 1 after press deadline. The Pioneers are the fourth seed, while Stoneham (9-7-2) came into the postseason as the 13th seed. The winner of this game will go up against either Weston or Bedford in a North quarterfinal round game.
