Hockey Pats in Bourne Classic this weekend By Steve Freker The winter season kicks off this weekend for many of the Revere High Patriots teams, including boys’ basketball and varsity hockey. Head coach Dave Leary’s Patriots boys’ basketball squad hosts Peabody in the home season-opener and Northeastern Conference (NEC) opener tonight at 7:00 p.m. at Revere High. The Patriots had a team full of underclassmen last season and this year is hoping for a return to the MIAA State Boys Basketball Tournament after missing out last year. NEC All-Stars recognized
By Tara Vocino Twenty-seven golf, boys’/girls’ cross-country, football, volleyball, boys’ soccer, and field hockey players were recognized as Northeastern Conference All Stars for the fall season during Monday’s School Committee meeting at Revere High School. “Each year, coaches from each of these sports cast ballots based on ability to recognize the best players on their team,” Athletic Director Frank Shea said. “We had a tremendous fall sports season with four teams qualifying. Usually, we only have three, and our cheerleading squad went to the State Finals.” Coaches and players received a certificate from the School Committee and Mayor on Monday night. Revere Holds Winthrop for Third Straight Thanksgiving Victory
By Steve Freker REVERE— It would have been hard for longtime Revere High head coach Lou Cicatelli to deny that this year’s turkey dinner was the tastiest of all, in his 16 years at the helm of the Patriots’ football program. After all, on a day steeped in tradition and history, Revere’s hard-fought, 18-6 victory over holiday archrival Winthrop at frosty Della Russo Stadium was the cherry on top of one of the most successful seasons ever for the Patriots.
