Daniel E. Callanan
Age 94, of Beverly Cove, died peacefully at his home on December 19, 2018, four days after his 94th birthday. Son of the late Joseph Aloysius and Louise Claire (Moriarty), he was born in Malden on December 15, 1924, graduated from Cheverus School, Malden Catholic High School and Boston College. An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country in the Pacific during World War II as a member of the United States Marine Corps. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty (Wall) Callanan, a daughter, Joan Maura of Saugus, and son, Edward Charles (Ned) and his wife, Heather Elizabeth (Germond) of Fairfield, CT, two grandsons, William Henry Callanan and Michael Edward Angeloni, a brother, Richard James and his wife, Jean. He was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph A., John M., Peter E. and sister, Elinor Slattery. A former Boston Post Reporter, he was employed by Bill Publications, Metro Media, and Honeywell before establishing his own advertising and public relations agency. In 1976 and in 1980 he served on the committee hosting the Tall Ships early visits to Boston. He was a director of The Rotary Club of Boston and the Executive Club, and member of the Downtown Club, the Winchester Country Club, Winchester Boat Club, and a trustee of Fisher Junior College. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Margaret Church, Beverly Farms, Friday, December 28. Burial at Westview Cemetery in Lexington was private.
