Malden Public Library Kicks Off Summer Reading Event

Hundreds of readers of all ages were on hand for the Malden Public Library’s summer reading kick-off event on June 25. Attendees ate free ice cream, listened to live music, received free books from Malden’s Friends of the Library, and had a chance to sign up for the summer reading challenge. Malden Superintendent of Schools Timothy Sippel and Councilor Ari Taylor were on hand to greet guests and serve ice cream from event sponsors Dairy Delight and Preotle Lane and Associates.

This year’s summer reading theme is Dig into Reading at the Malden Public Library. Expect to see dinosaur and archeology programming, including librarians dressed in dinosaur costumes, professional dinosaur experts sharing fascinating information, inflatable dinosaurs inside the library and more.

The summer reading program is open to readers of all ages, with prizes for participating. Adults can win $75 rain collection barrels from the city, teens can earn free pizza, and children can receive gift cards to a local comic-bookstore. There’s still time to sign up for the summer reading challenge on the Beanstack website: bit.ly/BeanstackMPL.
