Malden and Everett players shine at the annual statewide Bay State Games Baseball Showcase Tournament

Players from Malden High, Everett High and Mystic Valley represented on Metro Team at Pine Banks Park

Players from two local communities and three area high schools excelled in the recent Massachusetts Amateur Sports Foundation (MASF) Bay State Games. Players from Malden High School, Everett High School and Mystic Valley Regional Charter School (Malden) represented their schools and communities on the Metro Team in the six-team Baseball Showcase Tournament, which was held at Pine Banks Park in Malden. The Metro Team was one of five geographically-based teams in the statewide split, with five different regions represented.

Playing for the Metro Team were Malden High School’s Davante Layne, Joe Ewing Jr., Nick D’Anna, Devin Milonopoulos, Kyle Nickerson and Jaylen Rivera Fuentes, all rising juniors from the Class of 2028. Rising junior M.J. Guida from Everett High was a key member of the Metro Team, as were Ben Hickey, a rising senior from Mystic Valley Regional Charter School, and Ryan Tiberii, an Everett resident.

Malden High’s D’Anna was the Greater Boston League’s batting champion, with a GBL-leading .507 batting average this past spring. He was named to the GBL All-Star Team, as was Everett High’s Guida, two of only four sophomores selected, along with Lynn Classical’s Emerson Lara and Jaden Barragan. Hickey was a Commonwealth Athletic Conference All-Star selectee for Mystic Valley.

In the Bay State Games, Metro made it to the Bronze Medal game before falling to Coastal. Standouts for Metro were Malden’s D’Anna and Everett’s David Lima, both at the plate and on the mound, and Malden’s Layne, who had four hits, five stolen bases and three RBIs.

Mystic Valley’s Hickey was selected as Metro’s Sportsmanship Award Winner sponsored by Dick’s Sporting Goods.
