Firefighters Union says Mayor “has never left” a contract negotiation session

By The Advocate

Leadership at the Everett Firefighters Union is pushing back against a report by the Everett Leader-Herald that Mayor Carlo DeMaria broke off a negotiating meeting last week. The report stated that Mayor DeMaria left a tense meeting last Monday to attend the City Council meeting to discuss school funding. The President of the Everett Firefighters Union, Craig Hardy, released a short statement last Friday evening to, in Hardy’s words, let the “public know what the facts are.”

“IAFF Local 143, Everett Firefighters Union, has been negotiating with the city of Everett since April 2017 and have been out of contract for 19 months,” reads the statement. “Mayor Carlo DeMaria has sat in on negotiations and has never left a negotiating session with our negotiating team. We have another negotiations meeting with the city in the near future.
