Giant Blue Rabbit at The Gallery to be Auctioned in Dedham to Raise Funds for Charity

On September 7, 2018 The Gallery (480 Main Street) will host a goodbye reception for Penelope, a large, blue rabbit sculpture painted Henna style by Everett-based artist Karyn Alzayer of Henna Inspired. From 5 to 6pm, the public is invited to view Penelope and Alzayer’s detailed henna work, enjoy carrot cake, and take pictures with the giant rabbit.

Alzayer was selected by Dedham Public Art Project and the Dedham Square Artist Guild to paint the five foot rabbit scheduled to be installed publicly in Dedham by September. The project celebrates the fifth anniversary of the Mother Brook Arts & Community Center and will raise funds by auctioning off the rabbit at the Center’s fall fundraiser. The Gallery hosted Penelope during the painting process as Alzayer painted Penelope with intricate Henna designs.

With Alzayer having finished work on Penelope, the Henna-fied hare will be on display until mid September at The Gallery during normal business hours on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Stationed in the front window, the bright blue bunny is visible from across Main Street even when The Gallery is closed. While a large blue rabbit is nearly impossible to miss, The Gallery recommends those who are curious about Penelope come visit during business hours and attend the reception to meet the artist and hear more details about the project.
