Happy 24th Anniversary to Kelly’s Roast Beef & Seafood in Saugus

Story & photos by Al Terminiello, Jr.

February 7, 1994, may seem inconsequential to a lot of people, but to a select few, that day was a very big deal. On that morning 100 new people received jobs, a community gained a true friend and supporter and the North Shore got Kelly’s Roast Beef & Seafood. The Revere Beach–based business spread its wings and moved up to Route #1 south and into Saugus.

This was no small undertaking; after all, two full shifts of employees, a massive indoor eating facility and a huge parking lot to maintain weren’t things to be taken lightly. Kelly’s was “world famous” on Revere Beach, but things could be different here, and they certainly were.

With a little over 100 full- and part-time employees and a dedicated managerial staff averaging over 35 years in experience, Kelly’s employees range from new hires to 50 years of service. Employee turnover is minimal as everyone enjoys what they do: serving people the best food around with that signature Kelly’s smile. Giving back to the community that welcomed them 24 years ago has been a priority. Kelly’s Roast Beef & Seafood is a “Good Neighbor Business” – hiring local residents and high school students and donating generously to many worthy organizations.

Bob Belmonte, who has been with Kelly’s for 50 years, plans on retiring in December of 2018. Bob can be seen serving hundreds of customers a day as he prepares the best roast beef sandwich anywhere. General Manager Artie Perrin has been with Kelly’s for 38 years, and he still goes to work as if it’s his first day, ready to take on the many projects it takes to run a world-class business. Senior Manager Megan Caralon will never let you walk away without your questions or problems resolved. VP Dan Doherty is a regular visitor to his store locations, as well as are Director of Vendors Dean Murphy and Catering Director Jim Rataj.

Kelly’s sponsors a “Kids Night” on Monday evening from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., offering something for everyone and a chance for mom and dad to relax and enjoy a great meal with their children, who are always in good hands with members of Kelly’s staff.

In today’s world of not getting exactly what you pay for in the dining industry, dining out or drive thru, Kelly’s is not what you have come to expect. Kelly’s meals are freshly prepared individually, using fresh products and made the way you ordered it. It takes a lot to be top in the business for 24 years, and Kelly’s continues to raise the bar.

Happy 24th Anniversary, Kelly’s Roast Beef & Seafood on Route #1 south in Saugus.
