Several contested races highlight State Primary Ballot in Revere

By The Advocate

Revere voters will head to the polls on Tuesday, Sept. 1, for the state primary election, with several contested races appearing on the Democratic and Republican ballots. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The Democratic primary for U.S. Senate, featuring incumbent Sen. Ed Markey and U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton, is expected to be the race drawing the most attention and potentially driving turnout. Locally, state Rep. Jessica Giannino is unopposed on the Democratic ballot in the 16th Suffolk District. In the 19th Suffolk District, incumbent state Rep. Jeff Turco faces a primary challenge from Lee Allen Matthew Meyer. Other contested Democratic races include the U.S. House seat currently held by Katherine Clark, who faces challenges from Jonathan Paz and Tarik Samman. In the Suffolk County district attorney’s race, incumbent Kevin Hayden faces Linda Champion and former District Attorney Rachael Rollins. Incumbent Governor’s Councillor Terrence Kennedy is also facing a primary challenge from Diann Baylis.

Several statewide Democratic candidates are unopposed, including Gov. Maura Healey, Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll, state Sen. Lydia Edwards, Attorney General Andrea Campbell, Secretary of State William Galvin, Treasurer Deborah Goldberg, Auditor Diana DiZoglio and Register of Probate Stephanie Everett.

The Republican ballot features considerably fewer contested races. The only contested Republican primary is for governor, with Michael Minogue and Brian Shortsleeve seeking the nomination. Other Republican candidates on the ballot include John Deaton for U.S. Senate, Shawn Oliver for lieutenant governor, Michael Walsh for attorney general and Elizabeth Dionne for treasurer. There are no Republican candidates for the remaining offices on the ballot.
