    City Council lends a $1.3 million hand to the School Department The City Council voted 9-1 on Monday, March 13 to approve a $1.3 million transfer of funds to the School Department in order to help address a $5.3 million budget shortfall left by a change in the state’s funding formula. Only Ward 2 Councillor Stephen Simonelli opposed the transfer. Last year the state changed the way it defines students as being in poverty or academically disadvantaged.
