    Serving more than 1 million meals per year, in spite of floods and other obstacles, Bread of Life continues to provide for some of our community’s most vulnerable citizens. That’s 1.5 million pounds of food to people in need through its five programs.     Bread of Life Hosts Annual Christmas Day Free Community Dinner

    Event sponsored by Temple Tiferet Shalom of Peabody   All are welcome at Bread of Life’s annual Christmas Day Dinner on Tuesday, December 25, 2018 from 12 – 2 pm at Malden High School, 77 Salem Street. The dinner is free of charge and open to anyone in need or alone for the holiday, including families and senior citizens. No reservations are needed. Guests will enjoy a special holiday meal of roast beef, potatoes, stuffing, vegetables, bread, dessert, juice, tea & coffee.     Bread of Life receives $15,000 grant from Joy in Childhood Foundation in celebration of Giving Tuesday

    Funding will support programs that serve children battling hunger in local communities    The Bread of Life announced this week that it has received a $15,000 grant from the Joy in Childhood Foundation, which is powered by Dunkin’ and Baskin-Robbins, and brings the simple joys of childhood to kids battling hunger or illness. Funding from the grant will support Bread of Life’s Motel Meals Outreach that delivers meals and groceries to homeless families sheltered in motels, as well as its food pantries that provide groceries for families with children.     Bread of Life’s 26th Annual Walk & Run to Benefit the Hungry and Homeless at Pine Banks Park Last Sunday, October 7, over 50 volunteers and 100-plus walkers and runners gathered at Pine Banks Park for the 26th annual walk and run event. This annual event helps raise funds to feed many hungry and homeless local residents. Major sponsors of the event were Tufts Health Plan and Melrose Bank.     Bread of Life appoints new Executive Director

      As of October 1, longtime Bread of Life (BOL) Executive Director Thomas Feagley is stepping aside and will move into a new role with the organization: doing outreach and promoting BOL in the community. The Board of Directors has appointed Gabriella Snyder Stelmack as the new Executive Director. Tom’s commitment to serving the hungry, poor, isolated and homeless has inspired many people over the years and is the reason he is respected and loved in this vast network of feeding and nurturing. Tom started with BOL in 1984 and has seen it grow from a small evening meal to an organization that provides over one million meals per year.…

    September is Hunger Action Month, when the Feeding America nationwide network of food banks unite to urge businesses and individuals to take action in their communities to fight food insecurity and end hunger. On September 11, Mayor Gary Christenson presented a Proclamation on behalf of the City of Malden commending Bread of Life (BOL) and recognizing the month of September as “Hunger Action Month.” BOL, a faith-based, volunteer-driven organization, is the largest provider of free food serving residents of Everett, Malden, Medford, Melrose, Stoneham, Saugus, Reading, North Reading, Wakefield and Winchester.
