DiBiaso era ends with Crimson Tide at Boston Garden By Julian Cardillo   Ghared Boyce maintained his scoring spree, and John DiBiaso continued to coach his heart out, but the Everett basketball season ended an era at the Boston Garden on Monday night as the Crimson Tide fell to Mansfield in the D1 state semifinals. DiBiaso, Everett’s longtime athletic director, football coach and basketball coach, wasn’t able to add yet another trophy to an already sterling cabinet of accolades and milestones. “We fought very hard, but there were some baskets that we just didn’t convert when we needed to,” DiBiaso said. Boyce managed to hit 22 points in the contest,…

Everett beats Lowell, returns to D1 North Finals

By Julian Cardillo   After five consecutive years of floundering in the Division 1 North semifinals, the Everett boys’ basketball team finally righted their ship. The Crimson Tide advanced to the sectional finals for the first time since 2003 on Tuesday night by beating Lowell, 71-68, in a back-and-forth thriller. Now 22-1 overall on the season, Everett will play second-seeded Lawrence in the final on Saturday at the Tsongas Center in Lowell. The Tide are looking for their first sectional title since 1994. This has already been a year to make history for Everett’s team – so it seems only natural to add more accolades to the Crimson Tide’s till.…

Boyce makes Everett history as DiBiaso notches 500th win

By Julian Cardillo   The coach-player duo of John DiBiaso and Ghared Boyce continued to make history on the high school basketball scene this week as DiBiaso notched his 500th coaching win and Boyce recorded his 2000th competitive point. DiBiaso got to make history last Friday night, when his team opened the state tournament with a 66-46 victory over Chelmsford. The outgoing coach, who will take the reins of Catholic Memorial’s football program in the fall, posed with players and family members at center court after the game. That said, it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows when the game began. Chelmsford outscored the Crimson Tide, 14-9, in the opening quarter.…

Everett girls’ hoops team falls to Beverly in first round By Julian Cardillo   Sluggish defending brought the Everett girls’ basketball team’s successful season to a close on Tuesday night. Beverly took down the Crimson Tide, 75-48, in the opening round of the state tournament. Everett coach Tammy Turner said her team struggled to contain the Panthers on offense, namely their go-to scorer, Alyssa Moreland. “We knew she was their big scorer,” Turner said. “Beverly likes to push it and get it on the wing. We had been practicing for three days to deny that pass, and we worked in different ways to stop her, but we didn’t step up…

Everett picks up massive win at Lynn English with conference title in sight By Julian Cardillo   Everett basketball is on the verge of making history – again. The Crimson Tide boys’ basketball team beat Lynn English last Friday night and followed up with a victory over Somerville on Tuesday to take the top spot in the Northeastern Conference (NEC). “I think it would be special if, in just our first season here, we were able to win the conference,” said Everett coach John DiBiaso, whose team joined the NEC from the Greater Boston League this year. It appears as though the Crimson Tide are getting closer to achieving their…
