    Lynnfield laxmen go down fighting to close out season

    The Lynnfield High School boys’ lacrosse team finished the regular season with a 6-10 record. Going into the last three games of the season, the Pioneers had to win them all to qualify for the state tournament. Behind two-goal games from freshman John Briggs, who had returned from an early season injury, sophomore Jackson Hammersley and senior captain Peter Look, the Pioneers defeated Georgetown, 9-3. Jack Razzaboni, Gianluca Alfe and Nic Metrano accounted for the other Lynnfield goals versus the Royals. Solid defense by Hunter Allain, Nick Buonfiglio, Harry Drislane, Anthony Murphy, Nick Moreschi and goaltender Zack Huynh, who made 16 saves, set the tone in this game. With their…

    Top seed Newburyport eliminates girls’ lacrosse team in North quarterfinal round

    By Joe Mitchell   After beating host Winthrop (14-6, eighth seed) in a Division 2 North first-round game, 13-4, the Lynnfield High School girls’ lacrosse team (12-8, ninth seed) then had the dubious misfortune to go up against top seed Newburyport (22-0) in a North quarterfinal round game. The Clippers were all over the Pioneers to the tune of 15-3. They then went on to beat Swampscott (14-7, fifth seed), 19-3, to advance to the North final game against Manchester Essex (16-3, second seed) Friday night, June 15, at Triton. The Pioneers battled hard and competed for the full 50 minutes, but it certainly wasn’t enough to beat the Clippers.…

    Girls’ lacrosse upsets host Winthrop in first round Division 2 North state tournament game

    By Joe Mitchell   The Lynnfield High School girls’ lacrosse team (12-7), the ninth seed, defeated host Winthrop (14-6), the eighth seed, in a Division 2 North first round game, 13-4 June 5. Lynnfield then took on Cape Ann League rival Newburyport (20-0, top seed) in a North quarterfinal round game June 7 after press deadline. In Tuesday’s first round game at Winthrop, the Pioneers went up against the Vikings, and from the opening draw it was all Lynnfield.     Lynnfield girls’ lacrosse completes regular season with two more wins

    Pioneers begin the postseason next week By Joe Mitchell   The Lynnfield High School girls’ lacrosse team won its last two games of the regular season to end up 11-7 overall, and now they await the announcement of the state tournament’s pairings on Friday, June 1, to see who they will be playing in the first round next week. For the record, the Pioneers defeated Mystic Valley Regional Charter School, 20-7, and then St. Mary’s of Lynn, 14-1, to complete the regular season.     Lynnfield girls’ lacrosse team drops two to Newburyport, Ipswich By Joe Mitchell   The Lynnfield High School girls’ lacrosse team dropped a pair of contests last week to Newburyport (16-1) and then Ipswich (13-11). The Pioneers took on one of the top teams in the state when they faced undefeated Newburyport, and despite a valiant first-half effort the second half was an entirely different story. Lynnfield struggled to win draws in the first half, but it still forced turnovers on defense.     Girls’ lacrosse team inches closer to postseason as second half gets underway By Joe Mitchell   The Lynnfield High School girls’ lacrosse team (4-2 in the Cape Ann League [CAL], 6-4 overall) secured two out of three wins last week as they climb closer to another postseason berth in Division 3 North.
