    November Artist at the Malden Public Library

    November Artist at the Malden Public Library   James Blandini is our November Rotating Artist. As a Boston area native and second generation Italian American, his paintings and drawings are an exploration of the human condition and the search for spirituality through realistic portrayal. He is drawn to the rich visual imagery found in the New Testament, the Hebrew Bible, mythology, spirituality and works of literature. Blandini’s art will be on display at the Library through the month of November.

     Special to The Advocate On Monday, November 19, at 6 p.m. join us for a very special art tour – “New Acquisitions: Frank Stella” – at the Malden Public Library / Converse Memorial Building Art Galleries. Thanks to very special benefactors John Giso and Michael Nutall, and donations by the artist Frank Stella, the Malden Public Library is now home to three stunning works by this American master. Maldonians can help neighbors in need by contributing to the Malden Public Library’s food drive to benefit the local Salvation Army food pantry. Join the Library’s annual tradition of making this time of year special for those who might otherwise not be able to celebrate. Canned goods and other nonperishables are needed.     War and Remembrance: Malden in the Great War Exhibition opens at the Library on Oct. 22

    The Malden Public Library and Malden Historical Society will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I with an exhibition of wartime posters, photographs, letters, clothing, equipment and other artifacts from Malden in the Great War. The exhibition’s official opening reception will be held on Monday, October 22, at 6:00 p.m. The exhibition runs from October 22 to November 28. Hours are Mondays 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesdays 2:00-4:00 p.m., Saturdays 2:00-4:00 p.m., or by appointment. There is no charge for admission.     Upcoming Movie Night at the Malden Public Library

    Join us for Movie Night on Wednesday, October 24, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. We will be showing a classic Alfred Hitchcock movie from 1960 about Norman Bates, who is accused of being a “Psycho.” The film stars Anthony Perkins and Janet Leigh.     Annual Book Sale at Malden Public Library

     The Friends of the Malden Public Library will hold their annual Fall Book Sale on Friday, Nov. 2nd from 6–9 pm (Friends only preview evening) and Saturday, Nov. 3rd from 10 am–4 pm at the Malden Public Library. Young Adult and Adult paperbacks only 50¢ and hardcovers are $1. All children’s books are 25¢ each or 5 for $1.00.  We look forward to seeing you there!
