    This year, Malden reads ‘The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane’ By Barbara Taormina   Members of Malden Reads visited the City Council this week to pass along copies of “The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane,” this year’s choice for their One City, One Book program. Organized by Malden Public Library and Malden Access Television, the program encourages everyone in Malden to read the same book and share their responses at different scheduled discussions, events, or just over lunch.     Malden Reads News   Malden Reads and Chinese Culture Connection cosponsor author event Malden Reads and the Chinese Culture Connection presented the first evening of authors on October 25 at the Malden High School (MHS) gallery. The program started with a delicious variety of Chinese food delicacies for all to enjoy. Coauthors Gordon Mathieson and Hengjia Liu presented excerpts from their books, “Beijing to Boston, volumes 1 and 2.” The books are unique in that they contain both English and Chinese versions.     Malden Reads: Sunset, Storytelling & Stargazing on Waitt’s Mount – Saturday, October 13 Ward 4 City Councillor Ryan O’Malley, in collaboration with Malden Reads, announces the third annual “Sunset, Storytelling and Stargazing on Waitt’s Mount” to be held Saturday, October 13, weather permitting, from 5:30 -10:00 pm. This event was re-scheduled from the original date of May 19 which was cancelled due to inclement weather. The community is invited to the top of Waitt’s Mount Park in Malden to watch the sunset, hear storytelling and gaze at the stars with the help of the North Shore Amateur Astronomy Club (NSAAC) and #popscope.     Malden students Skype with companion book author

    One hundred and fifty eager first-graders from the Salemwood School in Malden had a chance to meet and speak with an author through a Skype session organized by Malden Reads. Sarvinder Naberhaus, the author of the Malden Reads companion book “Blue Sky White Stars,” appeared on a large screen in the auditorium as she read her book aloud to the students and then held a Q&A with the young participants.
