Important point keeps Revere-Malden hockey team hunting for playoff berth By Julian Cardillo   Joe Ciccarello has known all along his Revere-Malden hockey team has true raw talent. The key, he sensed, was bringing it all together so individual skill would turn into full-team momentum. Cashing in on that formula may be right around the corner for the Patriots, who maintain their post-season hopes after notching an important 4-4 tie against Lynn on Saturday. “They beat us pretty good earlier in the season, 7-1,” said Ciccarello, “so for us to come back and battle is huge. It’s an important point for us … I always knew we had the talent…

Revere-Malden hockey team hopeful despite Gloucester loss By Julian Cardillo   Gloucester stumped the Revere-Malden hockey team for the second time this season on Saturday, but this last performance was an improvement for the Patriots. Despite missing two players due to injury, Revere-Malden showed they could battle with one of the top teams in the Northeast Conference. The Fishermen took a 1-0 lead early in the first period and then scored two more times at the end of the period. Gloucester scored twice in the second, though Zach Rufo and Mike Giordano also netted a pair of goals in the period. The Fishermen scored one more in the third. “Honestly,…

Somerville stump Revere-Malden hockey, 2-1 By Julian Cardillo   The Revere-Malden hockey team couldn’t fool Somerville twice. Revere-Malden, who beat the Highlanders earlier this season 4-3, lost to them on Wednesday night 2-1 to slip to 7-5-2 on the season. The Patriots, who opened the scoring in the first period off a Corey Rufo goal, committed nine penalties, one of which led to a Somerville equalizer on the power play. “The referees were calling it tight and we were never able to recognize that,” said Revere-Malden Coach Joe Ciccarello. “Those penalties really hurt us. “I thought we started strong, we came out and scored. It was even in the second…

Revere basketball team founders in second half against Marblehead By Julian Cardillo Despite flexing their offensive muscles and controlling key parts of the game, the Revere basketball team slipped up against Marblehead last Friday night at home. Marblehead stunned Revere – who won the first and second quarters – by scoring 50 second-half points to secure an 84-68 comeback victory. “A tale of two halves, definitely,” said Revere coach David Leary. “We did a lot of good things on offense, and you can see we’re improving, but we allowed 50 second-half points and that’s a lot – especially in a high school basketball game.” The Patriots went into the first…

Pepic hits 1,000 points in Everett win  By Julian Cardillo Valentina Pepic scored 25 points in Revere’s 62-48 victory against Everett on Monday night, but the basket that mattered most came in the second quarter. Pepic, who is headed for division one college basketball next year at Niagara University, scored her 1,000th high school point on a layup after stealing possession. Pepic was fouled as she made her layup so she went to the line – and made – her foul shot, but only after she was recognized by her coaches, teammates and parents on her accomplishment. “It’s something she should be proud of,” Revere coach Lianne O’Hara said. “It’s…
