Revere softball team falls to strong Methuen

By Julian Cardillo   The Revere softball team showed off its upstart character in the state tournament, but ultimately came short of championship glory by falling in the second round to Methuen. Methuen, which many believe has a chance to challenge for the Massachusetts D1 title, didn’t get an easy ride from the Patriots. The two teams duked it out in a back-and-forth battle with Methuen emerging on the winning end, 7-6. “Methuen, the four-seed, are a very good team,” said Revere coach Joe Ciccarello. “But we came out swinging.” Revere took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Eve Lescovitz, Alexis Iacoviello and Danielle Dion each crossed the plate…

    Revere softball primed for playoffs

By Julian Cardillo   Revere softball coach Joe Ciccarello has one thing on his mind as his upstart Patriots team heads into the playoffs. “Win,” the longtime coach said enthusiastically ahead of the Lady Patriots playoff opener against Beverly on Friday afternoon. Revere softball team primed for playoffs

By Julian Cardillo The Revere softball team is headed for the post-season in strong form. Revere knocked off Swampscott, 8-5, on Wednesday night to close the regular season at 13-5. Victoria Correia was one of the stars of the Patriots’ offense, her two-run home run paving the way for another Revere win. “We lost nine of 13 players from last year’s team, but we ended with the same record,” said Revere coach Joe Ciccarello. “That goes to show the level of talent and quality of kids we have in our younger program as well as our returning leadership … I couldn’t be more impressed with our younger kids, who have…

Revere softball team looks to younger players

By Julian Cardillo   Revere’s Joe Ciccarello is getting set to turn in his hockey jersey for a ball cap, as he does every year. The Patriots’ softball coach is looking forward to the new season, which starts on April 5 at home against Chelmsford. Revere has built a strong program over the years, and Ciccarello has shown he can get players up to speed quickly, which will be necessary in 2018 given that nine varsity players have matriculated. “It’s an inexperienced, young team, but I’m excited to start fresh with a new program,” Ciccarello said. “We’ve had a lot of success over the last eight years; we’ve built an…
