    Basketball Pats solve the Saugus press to secure third win

    By Joe McConnell Despite lingering shooting issues, the Revere High School boys’ basketball team (2-3 in the Northeastern Conference, 3-5 overall) was able to beat host Saugus last Friday night, Jan. 4, 68-53. The Patriots then lost to perennial power Everett on Tuesday night, 47-30. “We had our chances in both games to score more points, but we haven’t been shooting particularly well,” said coach Dave Leary.     Revere-Malden co-op hockey team doubles up Everett for first win

    By Joe McConnell   The Revere-Malden boys’ co-op hockey team (1-3 in the Northeastern Conference South Division, 1-7-1 overall) got a much needed win on Wednesday night, Jan. 9, when they doubled up Everett to the tune of 8-4 at the Cronin Rink. The win came after a 6-2 loss to Gloucester last Saturday. “We hung in there against a really good club [Gloucester], and it shows we are making some progress in each game,” said coach Joe Ciccarello.     Hockey Pats still looking for first win after dropping competitive battle to Somerville

    By Joe McConnell   The Revere High School boys’ co-op hockey team (0-6-1) is fighting through injuries in the early going, but on Wednesday night, Jan. 2, they were more competitive against Somerville, losing a hard-fought effort, 5-3. The varsity squad is made up of 21 players, and the roster is pretty much split down the middle between Revere and Malden players, with 11 of them from the Beach City. There’s also a JV squad that has a total of 18 players, with 15 of them comprised of middle school talent. The future potentially looks even brighter for coach Joe Ciccarello’s program.     Basketball Pats begin 2019 with overtime win over rival Chelsea

    By Joe McConnell   The Revere High School boys’ basketball team (1-2 in the Northeastern Conference, 2-4 overall) started 2019 with a close competitive overtime win over rival Chelsea on Wednesday night, Jan. 2, 49-45. The Patriots closed out the old year playing in the Malden Golden Tornado Holiday Tournament, where they lost to the host team, 56-48, in the opener. They then dropped the consolation contest to Medford, 57-45.     Basketball Pats ready to take that next step back to the postseason

    By Joe McConnell   The Revere High School boys’ basketball team (1-2), under the direction of David Leary, went through the usual growing pains of a rebuilding team, and it showed in the final 3-17 record. Coach Leary expects to see more improvement this season. “The expectations heading into this year are to compete hard every night and give ourselves a chance to qualify for the state tournament,” he said.     Navigators unveil first two players on 2019 roster

    LYNN — Another summer of North Shore Navigators baseball drew a little bit closer on Thursday as Columbia University infielder Tyler MacGregor, a Peabody native, and pitcher Saajan May were officially unveiled as the first two members of the team’s roster for the upcoming Futures Collegiate Baseball League season. Director of Player Procurement Joe Gill made the announcement. “Our 2019 roster includes a ton of Division 1 talent.     Patriots girls’ basketball fall to Peabody in season opener

    By Greg Phipps Despite a strong start, the RHS Patriots basketball team fell behind a 16-0 run by Peabody in the season opener last Friday, ultimately falling 38-38 to their Northeastern Conference (NEC) foe. Peabody fell behind by a 9-2 margin early in the first quarter but outscored the visitors, 9-1, over the remainder of the stanza to pull in front, 11-10. Peabody Freshmen Oluchi Okananwa’s steal and layup gave the Tanners the lead. With the contest still close at 19-18 late in the second quarter, Peabody went on a 16-0 tear that carried into the third. By the time the surge ended, the Tanners owned a comfortable 35-18 lead…

    Football Pats earn post-season honors

     By Steve Freker   They put together one of the best seasons in school history this past fall, and head coach Lou Cicatelli’s Revere High School Patriots football team received a bundle of postseason honors for their performances. Six Patriots were named to the Northeastern Conference (NEC) First Team All-Conference squad for the 7-4 Revere High team for the Central Division. The win total was the most for a Patriot team since the early 1980s. Three senior captains from this year’s team were named First Team All-Conference: Devin Mathius, running back Darius McNeil and linebacker Frank Sims.
