    Twin artists

      The Saugus Public Library has identified two-year-old twin sister artists, Clare and Marie Venezia (pictured from left to right) as the Saugonians who did extensive work on the books and pumpkins display, which appeared on the front page of the Nov. 2 Saugus Advocate. The young artists are the daughters of Liz Venezia of Saugus. The girls’ grandmother, Cathy Donoghue, created the project that was based on the popular children’s book “101 Dalmatians.” So, what did the girls do? “Cathy said they painted for hours and lost themselves in the process,” said Amy Melton, head of the library’s Children’s Department. “They dipped cotton balls in black paint for spots…

    Autumn Art Display

    AUTUMN ART DISPLAY Children – with the help of some parents – got to decorate a pumpkin so that it would match up with their favorite book. About a dozen entries were on display this week in the Children’s Room of the Saugus Public Library.     Foundation for the SPL will honor leaders tomorrow night during annual gala Three prominent citizens who through volunteer service have made significant contributions to the betterment of Saugus, along with the president of this year’s Saugus High School senior class, will be honored tomorrow night (Saturday, Oct. 20) at the Fourth Annual Foundation for the Saugus Public Library (SPL) Gala.     Homework helpers return to the library

    The Saugus Public Library is again offering tutoring and homework help twice a week to the town’s elementary school students. Members of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) from the Belmonte Middle School will work with students in the library’s Community Room on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3 to 5 p.m. Under the program, which has received rave reviews in town, the elementary school students get help while the Belmonte students get credits for community service. The library again will be partnering with the Belmonte Middle School to offer free, drop-in homework help to help foster strong academic and study skills outside of school hours.
