Two individuals were found to have taken their own lives on the evenings of Jan. 20 and Jan. 21.
Carrie Kimball-Monahan, spokeswoman for Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett, said the Jan. 20 incident took place at 5 p.m. at 1152 Main St. She said officers responded to “multiple 911 calls” from residents about an erratic driver on Main Street. Kimball-Monahan said the officers stopped driver Christopher Morris, 47, and proceeded to conduct a field sobriety test, as he appeared to be intoxicated. “At that moment, the officers noticed that Mr. Morris had a gun and shot himself,” she said. Although Morris was rushed to the hospital, Kimball-Monahan said, he was pronounced dead on arrival. The incident remains under investigation.
Kimball-Monahan said the second suicide took place at 10 p.m. on Jan. 21 at a home on Wymon Way. She could not release further details as the incident occurred in a private residence. However, she said that foul play did not appear to be a factor.
