The old Moose Lodge on Broadway will be coming down, and the adjacent Fernwood Professional Building will be getting bigger. The Zoning Board of Appeals unanimously approved a plan to raze the empty Moose Lodge at 470 Broadway at its meeting on Wednesday, April 27. Hamel Management Group of Lynnfield will then be able to build an addition to its professional office building at 454 Broadway.
“Hamel Management Group purchased 452 and 454 Broadway from the City of Revere in 1998, and took down a blighted building to create what is now the Fernwood Professional Building,” said Attorney Chris Cridler, representing Hamel Management. “It’s a lovely landmark building on Broadway in the city of Revere, and there is a longtime tenant, Cambridge Health Alliance, who has remained the anchor of this particular building for a fairly long time. What we are seeking is the ability to expand upon the space that is available to the Fernwood Professional Building so that Cambridge Health Alliance is able to expand the services it is able to provide to the city of Revere.”
Hamel Management purchased the old Moose Lodge so it can expand the professional building. Cridler said the addition will be seamless and the same style as the current building. “It will be an extension of the current building as it stands now,” said Cridler. “It will match the current design of the building for the Fernwood Professional Building.” With the new construction, Cridler said, Cambridge Health Alliance will be able to expand its office space and service to the city.
Cridler said the project has the support of the ward councillor, Ward 4 Councillor Patrick Keefe, and the city’s economic development director, Bob O’Brien.
“The proposed development is literally one property away from Ward 3,” said Ward 3 Councillor Anthony Cogliandro. “I think it is a great use for this building and I’m in favor of it.”
The ZBA unanimously approved variances for the project that included noncompliance with minimum side yard setbacks and minimum parking requirements for new construction of general office use in a commercial business district.
