Council on Aging collected largest amount of donations this year thanks to community members
The City of Everett’s Council on Aging (COA) recently delivered a total of over 400 socks, gloves and hats that were donated by Everett community members to the Veterans Home in Chelsea. The COA received overwhelming support this year – they were able to make the largest donation they have made so far for this annual endeavor. The items consisted of new and unpackaged socks, gloves and hats that were donated by community members, as well as items that were handcrafted by older adults who are part of the Knitting and Crochet Club at the Connolly Center.
“I am grateful to everyone who donated in the true spirit of the holiday season,” said Mayor Carlo DeMaria. “These clothing items will go a long way in helping those who served our country to stay warm this upcoming winter.”
Established in 1882, the Veterans Home in Chelse (formerly the Soldiers’ Home) offers residential and long-term care programs to eligible Massachusetts veterans. Their mission is to provide the highest quality personal health-care services to Massachusetts veterans with dignity, honor and respect.
