Over 100 students from this area will be participant in today’s Greater Boston League Student-Athlete Summit, which is being hosted by the eight GBL high schools as part of a speakers’ program supported by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA). The Keynote Speaker at today’s event is nationally known motivational speaker Omari Pearson, founder of Passion to Purpose Goal and Mind Mapping. Pearson is scheduled to address over 100 student-athletes from the Greater Boston League’s schools at 10:00 a.m. at Prince Pizzeria, (517 Broadway, Saugus).
Over the last 14 years, Omari Pearson, a former University of Nevada-Las Vegas (UNLV) basketball star, has partnered with high schools, colleges and universities across the United States and internationally, empowering 300,000-plus students and, according to information on his website, passiontopurpose.com, “sharing how to better navigate their educational journey in pursuit of their financial, life, and career goals.”
According to a narrative on his website, “Omari quickly learned many students today still are not being thorough in their research and pursuit of their educational and career goals. Because of this Omari focused himself on helping move students from a “checkers” mentality to a “chess” mentality with their short- and long-term educational, career and life goals. “Omari believes students today are in dire need of mentors, and he aims to have P2P serve as the bridge bringing current students together with successful adults.”
Malden Director of Athletics Charlie Conefrey, who is a member of the MIAA Board of Directors and President of the Greater Boston League, said this is a great opportunity for Malden students and those across the GBL to get some well-researched and well-formulated information on how to better create their future plans. “We are excited about this opportunity for our GBL student-athletes,” Conefrey said. “Omari Pearson is one of the most knowledgeable and respected experts in this field in the nation. We were fortunate to arrange his visit to Massachusetts to meet with players.”
Malden student-athletes who are attending today include Jeslyn San, Abigail Lee, Lovely Anne Gerochi, Edward Mei, James Hyppolite, Kim Tropnas, Gizelle Rodriguez, Makenzie Jenkins, Bo Bogan, Nahim Laguerre and Chris MacDonald.
