Malden High School Field Hockey Senior Night

Seven Tornado Seniors are honored for their contributions

Seven Malden High School Seniors were honored for their contributions to the Golden Tornado Field Hockey Team on “Senior Night.” The recognition ceremony was held before the Malden-Revere game – a Greater Boston League (GBL) showdown game – at Macdonald Stadium in Malden. It turned out to be a great night all-around for Malden and first-year Head Coach Tiffany Cane, as Malden was able to pull out the shutout win, 1-0.

Fittingly, senior Kevin Chen scored the game-winning goal and senior goalkeeper Ashlyn Cullity recorded seven saves in the net to record the shutout win.

“All of the seniors played well tonight and all season for us,” Coach Cane said on October 14, Senior Night. “They have all shown true leadership and have been great mentors to the younger players.”

Malden was battling for a chance at another GBL Championship, and the win over Revere, Malden’s second “W” over the Patriots this season, kept the Tornados unbeaten in GBL play at 3-0-2. Malden played Everett in another big GBL game earlier this week.

The seven Seniors recognized on the special night for Malden were Kevin Chen, Shawn Chen, Ashlyn Cullity, Matthew Garcia, Kyle Huang, Stanley Jiang and Satvir Singh. Other Malden team members who honored the Seniors with the traditional “Sticks Up” assembly before the Revere game are Dylan Huang, Sophia “Sade” Hunyh, Audrey Nguyen, Amayar San, Ace Showstead and Tanvir Singh.

“‘It was a pleasure to work with all of these Seniors, they worked so hard this season and we had a lot of success,” said first-year Malden assistant coach Daniel O’Toole, a former Malden standout and team captain.
