The Malden Public Library is excited to announce an event with Debra Bruno, author of “A Hudson Valley Reckoning: Discovering the Forgotten History of Slaveholding in My Dutch American Family,” in conversation with Eleanor Mire on Monday, December 9, from 6-7 p.m. in the Maccario Room. In Bruno’ book, she tells the story of slavery’s history in upstate New York, uncovering her Dutch ancestors’ slave-holding past, leading to deep connections with the descendants of the enslaved people her family owned. She eventually met and became friends with Eleanor C. Mire, a fellow researcher and a descendant of a woman enslaved by one of Bruno’s Dutch ancestors. Join us for great discussion on family history, the complexities of slavery in the mid-Atlantic states and the challenges of racial reconciliation.
This event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit www.maldenpubliclibrary.org/blog/hudson or call 781-324-0218.
