Malden Boys Tennis and Girls Tennis both holding down first place in GBL

There is only one week left in the season, but there is still plenty of business to be decided – league business. Greater Boston League title business, to be exact.
Heading into the midweek, a monster game between Malden and Medford baseball – with both teams atop the GBL race at 8-2 – was slated at Medford’s park on Wednesday, with the winner assured to be in the driver’s seat for the league crown moving forward. For both teams, this would be the first time in many years either one of them would be in contention for the top spot.
At 12-2 overall, Malden is off to one of its best starts ever. The Golden Tornado baseball squad last won the GBL crown in 1994, when Kevin McGlinchy, Kurt Gaudet, Ronnie Repoza and Joe Souza – Hall of Famers all – ruled the roost.
In softball it is still a two-team race with Everett and Medford battling it out. Medford is also on top in Boys Lacrosse and Girls Lacrosse (8-0 GBL, 11-0 overall), as it is shaping up to be a “Mustang Spring.”
Both Malden tennis teams are still on the path to defending their GBL titles from a year ago. Unbeaten in the league, both of them, Malden Boys (7-0 GBL) and Malden Girls (6-0), are looking strong.
Malden Boys Volleyball, which dropped a tough one to Revere on Monday, is 10-2 GBL to Revere’s 9-2 and can clinch at least a co-championship if it wins out in the league.
