Mustang sprint: Medford wins race early on road at Malden

Tornado junior Manicha Exilhomme ‘double-double’: 17 pts., 12 reb.

By Steve Freker

Second-place Medford (7-2 GBL) rang up a double-digit lead at halftime and never looked back in a 54-37 win on the road at Malden High. Medford’s offensive game was so balanced, nine players made the scoresheet, but not one was in double figures scoring-wise. Malden junior Manicha Exilhomme had another “double-double”: 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Tornados. Senior Sophia Rodrigues had two “threes” and Maddy Cook added 8 points.

Malden was scheduled to host Chelsea on Tuesday, Jan. 27, but that game was postponed due to the aftermath of the snowstorm. That game has been postponed until February Vacation, when Malden entertains the Red Devils on Thursday, February 18 at 2:00 p.m. in the Finn Gym at Malden High School.

Malden rebounded with a 47-34 win on the road at Lynn English High School, but then dropped a road game, 50-28 at Everett. Head Coach Scott Marino’s Golden Tornado girls are now at 5-7 overall, 3-6 Greater Boston League.
