Mayor Christenson Announces Call for Malden Community Connections Grant Applications

The City of Malden is launching the next funding round for its Community Connections Grant program, Mayor Gary Christenson announced today. The Malden Community Connections Grant awards funds annually to local nonprofits, community organizations, and grassroots groups in Malden, supporting everyday opportunities that help people build trust and care for one another. Funded initiatives may include community events that deepen connections between neighbors, physical improvements that enhance shared spaces, and public art projects that celebrate Malden’s unique character and culture.

“At a time when many people feel divided and disconnected, the Malden Community Connections Grant program continues to invest in the relationships and shared experiences that make our city strong,” said Mayor Gary Christenson. “We’ve already seen how these grants help local organizations create welcoming spaces, build connections among residents, and spark community pride. It is now more important than ever to build on that momentum and support even more opportunities for people to come together and feel a true sense of belonging in Malden.”

Grants are funded through the Surrounding Community Agreement with Encore Boston Harbor. This agreement calls for funds to be used to support organizations in the City of Malden. The City’s Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development (OSPCD) administers the grant program and makes recommendations to the Mayor for potential awards. In the program’s first year, the City funded 25 organizations, supporting a range of projects that have fostered new connections and deepened existing ones. The City anticipates awarding up to $200,000 to this year’s funding recipients.

The application period opens on February 12, 2026 and will close on April 1, 2026. Applicants will be notified by May 5, 2026 about funding decisions.
