Rollercoaster weather continues with temperatures back in 30s by midweek

Which way to the beach? That was the word on Tuesday as local residents and those across the region put aside their winter jackets and soaked in the sun for a day on a record-breaking burst of warmth.
In the midst of greater Boston’s coldest winter seasons in over 30 years, we got the opposite on Tuesday. In Malden the temperature on the iconic Carrier sign on Route 60 hit a whopping 80 degrees, a record for this city for March. It also had not been 80 degrees in five months, since it was 83 degrees in Boston on October 6, 2025.
At Boston’s Logan Airport it was 76 degrees Tuesday, smashing the 148-year record of 71 degrees for March 10 all-time, set way back in 1878. The last time Boston’s Logan Airport hit 70 degrees was back on October 8, 2025.
The weather rollercoaster soared to record warmth right in the midst of the coldest winter since 1992-1993. This winter, since December 21, 2025, temperatures have averaged 28.8 degrees, while that year it was 28.7 degrees for an average. This winter has also seen over 60 inches of snowfall, the most since 114 inches of snow came in the winter of 2015.
Don’t get used to the sun and warm weather, however, as the forecast called for a dip back into the 40s by today and Saturday with rain Saturday and again on Monday. The skies will clear but much colder temps return by next Tuesday, March 17, St. Patrick’s Day — only in the high 30s. Seasonable weather, sunny and mid-40s return by the end of next week in greater Boston.
