Malden Reads to host forum on trauma resources for families and children

Malden Reads is pleased to host a free forum for families and children to learn strategies and resources for healing from trauma. The event will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at the Malden Public Library (36 Salem St.). Doors will open at 6:00 p.m., with time to mingle and hear live music. The forum will run from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. The event is free and open to all; no registration required.

The forum is an opportunity for participants to learn strategies from various perspectives, including:

  • Mindfulness
  • Art therapy
  • Counseling
  • Yoga therapy
  • Book therapy

Practitioners from each field will share practical approaches to support families and children and through difficult experiences. After the presentations, participants will have an opportunity to ask questions.

This year’s forum focuses on trauma resources, connecting to themes in “Our Missing Hearts” by Celeste Ng, where the main character, Bird, experiences separation from his mother and must navigate a world marked by fear and loss. The forum provides practical tools families can use to help children process experiences such as grief, anxiety and uncertainty.

Forum series background: Malden Reads launched a forum series in 2024 focused on empowering families and caregivers, inspired by that year’s book selection, “Being Heumann” by Judith Heumann and Kristen Joiner. This is the third forum in the series.
