Interactive sessions explore democracy, civic principles and constitutional values
Malden Reads, in partnership with the Massachusetts Center for Civic Education (MACCE) and the Malden Public Library, is hosting a free four-part Citizen Lyceum series exploring the foundations of American government. The Lyceum sessions will be held at the Malden Public Library (36 Salem St.) from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Community Meeting Room. Participants may attend one session or both of the upcoming sessions. Refreshments will be provided. Slides from previous sessions are available by emailing ma*********@***il.com.
Upcoming Sessions
Session 3: Institutions of Government, Monday, March 23, 2026 — explore the Legislature, Executive and Judiciary branches and how they balance power.
Session 4: Withstanding Crises, Monday, April 6, 2026, — examine how our democracy has endured past, present and future challenges.
What is Citizen Lyceum? The series covers topics including the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and Malden’s own historic Malden Instructions of May 1776: the document in which Malden was among the first towns to declare independence from Britain.
Connection to “Our Missing Hearts”: This series complements Malden Reads’ 2026 book selection, “Our Missing Hearts” by Celeste Ng, which explores themes of civic ideals, tests to democracy and the courage required to stand up.
